The Start; Today's Game Plan

When Kurt Browning first tried quadruple jumps in practice, he didn't do them with the intention of winning a gold medal. He did them to win over the heart of a girl. "It was such a goofy, experimental thing," said Browning, the four-time Canadian world champion. "I didn't even tell my coach. The first time I landed one was at about 11:45 at night. I was trying to impress a girl." Was she impressed? "Yes." Now 33 and skating in the professional ranks as a member of the Target Stars on Ice Tour (which stops in Gund Arena at 4p.m. today), Browning isn't trying too many quads these days. Not even for the girls. Occasionally, he and tour members Steven Cousins and Olympic gold medalist Ilia Kulik will work on them in practice. But the last time Browning attempted one in a show was a year ago when he toured with Stars on Ice in Canada. Still, you can expect Scott Hamilton, Tara Lipinski and Kristi Yamaguchi, as well as Jenni Meno of Westlake and Todd Sand to put on a spectacular show.
