Lyrics: Lyrics:
Steppin out with my baby
Can't be wrong 'cause I'm in right
It's for sure, not for maybe
That I'm all dressed up tonight

Steppin' out with my honey
Can't be bad to feel so good
It's for sure not for maybe
That I'll keep on knockin' wood

There'll be smooth sailin' 'cause I'm trimmin' my sails
With my white tie and top hat and my tails

I'm steppin' out with my baby
Can't be wrong 'cause I'm in right
Ask me when will the day be
The big day may be tonight

There'll be smooth glidin' while I'm ridin' my rails
With my suit pressed, best vest, but no tails

I'm steppin' out with my baby
Can't be wrong to feel this nice
It's for sure not for maybe
That I'll keep on knockin' ice

If I start to scintilate
It's because I've gotta skate
And if you should ask me why I feel sublime I'm Steppin' Out

You don't have to ask me
I won't waste your time
But if you should ask me why I feel sublime...

Steppin out with my skates on
Can't be wrong to feel so nice
Spread the word, you know this dates on
'Cause I'll keep on knockin' Ice!

Kurt's Dialogue:
(Breath)
OKAY
(music in)
HERE HE COMES FOLKS: 4 TIME CANADIAN CHAMPION, 4 TIME WORLD CHAMPION,
OH DON'T FORGET 3 TIME WORLD PROFESSIONAL CHAMPION, A TWO TIME OLYMPIC
CHAMP----OH NO, RIGHT, YOU FELL...REMEMBER?

GOTTA CONCENTRATE!

OKAY HERE WE GO. KNEES DON'T FAIL ME NOW!

---OH, DID I LEAVE MY CELL PHONE IN THE HOTEL ROOM?

(Lyrics start)

NEVER HAD ONE LESSON!

AND NOW I'M TAKING OFF MY IMAGINARY HAT AND SURPRISE---IT WAS
NEVER REALLY THERE!

'CAUSE IF I FORGOT MY CELL PHONE THEN I CAN'T CALL SONIA---OH A
DOUBLE!? GO FOR THE TRIPLE!

THAT'S BETTER...COME ON BROWNING...

"HEY IM WALKIN' HERE!" (LAUGH) I'M SO FUNNY...

AND DROP TO THE KNEE---OH THAT HURTS---AND DOWN AND---OW, MAN, AGAIN?
JUST KEEP SMILING, KEEP SMILING...

STOLE THIS MOVE FROM EVAN LYSACEK...AND I'M NOT GIVING IT BACK!

NO TAILS? THAT'S NOT HOW THE SONG GOES!

"KNOCKIN' ICE"... YEAH...

OH NO! SALCHOW'S NEXT! BUT DON'T THINK ABOUT IT. DON'T THINK
ABOUT THINKING ABOUT IT... YOU'RE THINKING "DON'T THINK ABOUT IT"
WHICH MEANS YOU'RE STILL THINKING ABOUT IT!---BOY IF I EVER GET
MY HANDS ON THAT ULRICH SALCHOW GUY I'M GONNA---

WELL, THAT WAS THAT...

"...BUT IF YOU SHOULD ASK ME WHY I FEEL SUBLIME...WHY I FEEL..."

YOU KNOW I DO FEEL SUBLIME. I FEEL GREAT! WHY AM I WORRIED ABOUT STUFF
THAT ISN'T IMPORTANT? A JUMP HERE OR THERE; A SORE KNEE; BIG DEAL. YOU
KNOW IT'S LIKE DAD USED TO SAY: "THE PARKING LOT IS FILLED WITH CARS,
EVERYONE'S HERE TO SEE A SHOW". YOU LUCKY SO-AND-SO YOU'RE STILL DOING
WHAT YOU LOVE SO STOP COMPLAINING BEFORE SOMEBODY HEARS YOU.

NOW SHUT UP...AND SKATE!

(AFTER THE LAST BAND HIT)

YEAH!

AMERICAN BOWS

YES! YAYYY! I DID IT! I'M AMAZING! I LOVE BOWING I LOVE BOWING! YOU
TOO EVERYBODY! MUAH! BIG KISS! ---I MEAN I'M NO SCOTT HAMILTON
BUT HEY THIS IS PRETTY---(WHOOSH)---THIS IS PRETTY GOOD! OH I'M
KINDA TIRED TOO...(WHEW)...
IT'S A GOOD THING THEY CAN'T HEAR MY THOUGHTS.

CANADIAN BOWS

YEAH! AWESOME! YOU'RE THE MAN! OH THIS IS---I LOVE THIS! I LOVE
BOWING! I LOVE BOWING---I MEAN I'M NO BRIAN ORSER BUT THIS IS
AWESOME! OHHHH FANTASTIC...OKAY...ALRIGHT...WHEW! I'M TIRED...
(SIGH).
IT'S A GOOD THING THEY CAN'T HEAR MY THOUGHTS.

Random facts: The concept of the program centers around the idea that the audience can hear Kurt's thoughts as he skates, but he is not aware that they can hear them. He conceived the program as a sort of "Being Kurt Browning" (like "Being John Malkovich") look into his head. The song, based on Tony Bennett's "Steppin' Out With My Baby", was re-orchestrated by his friend Steve Thomas, whom he met on Peter Pan. The lyrics were adapted to his skating, and the song re-recorded by Geoffrey Tyler, another friend from Peter Pan, who also helped out on the choreography, the concept, and the writing. Read my interview with Geoffrey Tyler, Steppin' Out with Geoffrey Tyler for an in-depth discussion of the creation of this program.
