Kurt Browning, four-time World and Canadian Champion, was honoured
in early June for his outstanding accomplishments in figure skating by
receiving a 'star' on Canada's Walk of Fame in Toronto, Ontario. It
was an emotional moment for the athlete who acted as co-host for the
show in 2000. "I was trying to figure out why I was so affected by
this award. I've been involved with the award since it began even if
it was just going to the award ceremony and watching. Sonia and I
have had so much fun. We've met friends that have become a part of
our lives at this event. I feel really connected with this particular
event and then at the same time, it seems like an award that suits me
- it's such a fun award and it's put together in a very Canadian way,"
said Browning.
And who was the distinguished gentleman who presented Browning with
the star? - none other than his good friend, Scott Hamilton. 'He
just walked out on stage and set the tone for the night. He's such a
showman! He walked out on stage with a huge telephone book and
dropped it very loudly in front of the microphone and then stepped up
on it so he was tall enough to talk and then proceeded to be funny for
the next three minutes," laughed Browning. And when Browning and his
wife, Sonia Rodriguez, have a moment, they plan to go down and have a
picnic on his star.
