Four-time World Figure Skating Champion Kurt Browning has been
dazzling audiences in Stars on Ice for 22 years, but says when it came
time to take his first shot at co-directing and choreographing the
show he had no mercy on his fellow skaters.
"I think the skaters appreciate it too, because it's a lot more fun to
do something that's challenging than which doesn't challenge you," he
said of the 12-city cross-country tour, which reaches Vancouver next
Friday.
This year's show features a star-studded cast of world-renowned
athletes, including 2010 Olympic gold medalists Tessa Virtue and Scott
Moir, 2010 Olympic bronze medalist and national sweetheart Joannie
Rochette, Olympic bronze medalist and world champion Jeffrey Buttle,
and 2012 Canadian national silver medalists Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew
Poje.
"We have a very young cast," Browning said. "Kaitlyn's been wanting to
be in Stars on Ice since she was eight years old, and she's been
talking a lot about coming to Stars on Ice as a child and seeing
pretty girls with the glittery dresses and wishing she was a part of
it. It's pretty interesting for me to be choreographing a show for a
girl who was eight when she first came to Stars.
"...You hope that somewhere out there there are more Kaitlyn Weavers...
that you're leaving that impression on young kids."
The numbers feature hit music by artists such as Adele and Florence
and the Machine.
Tickets for the Stars on Ice "Love 'n' Life" Tour start at $25 and are
on sale now. They are available via Ticketmaster.ca or by phone at
1-855-985-5000 and the Rogers Arena Box Office.
