About the event

Lucinda Ruh doesn't look like the typical petite figure skater. Her tall and lanky frame is more runway model or showgirl.

So the Stars on Ice role of "ultimate showgirl" is a good fit for the 22-year-old. The show comes to Dallas as part of a 60-city tour and also features such skating champs as Tara Lipinski, Kristi Yamaguchi, Katarina Witt and Kurt Browning.

"The show isn't just one number after another," says Ms. Ruh. "It's more like a Broadway production with a story line going through it."

The role allows Ms. Ruh to display her strengths: spinning and dance artistry. Her height adds to the difficulty of jumping, an emphasis of amateur competitions.

"I have further to fall when I miss a jump," she says. "I was breaking bones and getting stress fractures. In the professional world, my spinning is more appreciated."

Her famed spins - 270 revolutions a minute - have earned her the title "Queen of Spin."

"I never had a spinning coach," she says. "It was really just my mom and dad. They always stressed that I need to have one thing that I'm really good at and known for. They'd say you have to do one more revolution each day.

"I love spinning. It's like being at home."
