2002-2003 Stars on Ice Spoilers
10/3/02: Report written by Nancy:
Just returned from 2 days of rehearsals and I'm happy to
report...everyone was there! It was a very busy 2 days & we got to
observe quite a bit. No single run throughs....all group #'s. Didn't get
to see Kurt doing anything other then some dance/footwork moves that
didn't seem to fit with any of the group #'s so I assume it must be from
his jazz number. He was trying out different moves with A.C. watching &
commenting.
Opening # -- Ozzy -- lots of cool moves...order of skaters coming out on
ice:
Todd (who the entire time was laughing and goofing around with the rest
of them).
I & Z (Sylvia filled in -- Kyoko had surgery last week and looked good.)
M &S
Steven
B&S
S&P
Alexei
KURT
& (we think) Tara -- she was the only skater who left after the opening
# rehearsals in the morning yesterday. She did not return. Jenny
missed yesterday due to a bad cold but was back today.
The pair ups for this group # for the single skaters when it does occur
are: (Kurt, Tara & Alexei)-- (Todd, Kat & Steven)
note: no furniture
The group #s we did see:
JXL - Cowboy hats -- Alexei, Kurt, David, John, Steven & Todd S. (very,
very cool #!!) You guys are going to love this. And watch out for the
pair "moves" they perform. Yes...the guys...including throws!
And....some very original pair moves I know I've never seen...example:
Kurt & Alexei's side by side hooked arm cantilever Great footwork,
great dancing...you'll love it...oh...and a bit of the "full monty"
thrown in. LOL (no furniture)
"Sing" -- S&P, B&S & Todd -- this one is still very rough...they just
putting it together...but looks like it will also be quite good. (no
furniture..but there was some fabric...not sure what they are going to
do with it yet...) This look like it is solely choreographed by Sandra.
Closing -- Will Smith -- but you wouldn't know it..it's got
everything...techno, hip hop, Latin & some chanting thrown in for good
measure...very different & very difficult. Intricate footwork/dance
moves, for the entire cast. note: no furniture
Note: Kurt is very involved with the choreography. I was told that
he meets daily with Seibert, Sandra, Jamie & A.C. before practices
begin. He was trying various "dance" moves and footwork sequences
both days I was there. He also helped the others work on getting
theirs nailed down on an individual basis while the remainder skated
or took breaks.
Kurt was his usual comical self when things relaxed during work. He was
wearing what I was told was a "dew rag" yesterday and apparently does
this often. (It's a scarf wrapped around his head).
The entire cast seems to be having such a good time! I was so
impressed with the choreographers. Jamie, Sandra, Michael & A.C. (who
did most of his "movement" on a rug they rolled out on the ice for
him) worked their butts off. They were out there skating with the
others most of both days, particularly Jamie. Very impressive.
All things considered...this looks like it's going to be one heck
of a show. Please forgive any errors but I think I've included all
the correct participants in each group #.
Some links to spoiler reports:
A summary of spoilers from the above sites:
Kurt has two programs in Stars on Ice this year: a Tony Bennett
song and a jazz number. (Thanks Bea for the information!)
Six of the eight guys (Kurt, Alexei, Steven, David, John, Todd S.)
are in a group number together to the "current #1 hit by Elvis
Presley." I believe this is "Elvis vs. JXL: A Little Bit of
Conversation", a remix of an old Elvis song that was done by Nike for
World Cup promos (or was in promos?). This seems to be the number
that the guys have been seen practicing to in cowboy hats. Here's a
link to a music
clip of this song.
Sale & Pelletier, Berezhnaya & Sikharulidze, and Todd Eldredge are
in a group number together to "Sing" or "In the Mood" or a similar song.
From Tara Lipinski's
Online Diary - the opening number is to Ozzy Osbourne. A
different Simsbury report says that this number is an instrumental.
The closing number is reportedly a "Will Smith" finale with a
mixture of styles.
Kyoko Ina had a shoulder injury and had to sit out during
rehearsals. She had surgery successfully and Ina & Zimmerman should
be able to perform with the whole tour. Silvia Fontana stood in for
Kyoko in the group numbers. There is a report that she has been
offered a place on the tour and that she has accepted. I do not know
if this information has been confirmed yet.
