20 Years of Stars on Ice: 1993

In the 1992-93 season, a fairly major change stirred up the Stars on Ice tour. IMG bought out Brian Boitano and Katarina's Witt's Skating tour, and subsequently hired Sandra Bezic and her entire production team to take over Stars on Ice. Sandra would shake things up considerably, bringing higher production values and a focused team to bring Stars on Ice to a new level. The 1993 tour saw the first of several memorable, elaborate finales that focused on the music of one artist. In 1993, that artist was Queen, and in Canada, that finale featured three of Canada's all-time great skating men together in "Crazy Little Thing Called Love", as well as another great, Toller Cranston uniquely interpreting "I'm Going Slightly Mad." One of Kurt Browning's numbers that year was a show version of his signature competitive "Casablanca" program, reprising the role of Bogey in a slightly more tongue-in-cheek version of the program. He also performed "Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me" by Elton John as a sort of thank you to his fans who had stuck by him through his Olympic disappointment in 1992, and his success winning his fourth world title in 1993.

    The fans speak...

I remember an Annual Meeting of the Canadian Figure Skating Association in Edmonton. Kurt and Kristi Yamaguchi along with a few other skaters went bar hopping on roller blades! I thought that was hilarious at the time and sooooo Kurt. However I think his quad topped that in my memories of Kurt!!!

I've ALWAYS loved watching Kurt skate!!! Braved a snow/ice storm just to see him with Stars On Ice... and when I finally arrived, he was sitting in my seat - WHAT A THRILL finally meeting him!
