In late 2007, Kurt Browning will be taking on an exciting new role, his musical theater debut as Peter Pan in the Ross Petty Production "Peter Pan: The Family Musical That's Silly, Very Silly!" It's a unique opportunity to see Kurt on stage, singing, rollerblading,
flying, and playing a role that would seem to be a perfect fit - the
boy who never grew up.
"[I'm] doing it because I think it will be fun, a
challenge, but fun and interesting. Gives me a chance to use some of
the things I have learned as a skater/performer and put them into a
different stage... literally."
Kurt's been working hard preparing for the role, taking voice lessons,
practicing rollerblading tricks, and rehearsing hard. He's already
known as one of the greatest entertainers on the ice - it's not hard
to imagine this naturally charismatic on-ice actor leaving his skates
behind and commanding the stage.
Ross Petty productions are not your traditional stage plays, and have
been popular family holiday shows with Toronto audiences for over a
decade. To quote a member of the production, "It's a classic fairytale that has been fractured to include modern
references, popular music and a lot of slap stick humor! Don't forget to boo
the villain and cheer the hero as audience participation is always welcome.
Where else would you have a skateboarding Aladdin or Snow White the Pop Idol
with her Group of Seven, which is a has been boy band, but in Ross Petty's
fractured fairytales."
The show runs from Nov. 24, 2007 through Jan. 6, 2008 at the Elgin
Theatre in Toronto, ON for a total of 53 shows. There are matinees on
every weekend, during Christmas week, and the week after New Years, as
well as evening shows 6 days of the week, which means many
opportunities to catch Kurt on stage. Tickets are available via phone
(416-872-5555 - Ticketmaster Canada), in person at the
Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre Centre Box Office (189 Yonge
St) or online via Ticketmaster.ca. Ticket prices range from $54-74 for adults, $49 for children 12 and under, and $196 for a family 4-pack. Group tickets are available for groups of 15 or more through The Group Tix Company (647-438-5559).
There has been a recent change to the Peter Pan performance schedule. If you have purchased tickets to either the Thursday November 22nd or Friday November 23rd performances of Peter Pan, please contact Ticketmaster or office@rosspetty.com.
