"I'm thrilled to be returning this year to help get the word out
about dog adoption," said Kurt Browning. "Getting involved in the
Pedigree Adoption Drive(TM) program was a natural fit for me as I've
always had a dog in my life. Dogs can have such a positive impact on
your life and shelter dogs rule!"
Last year, the campaign raised over $300,000 for partner shelters
across the nation and helped thousands of dogs find new families.
This year, the campaign aims to raise $500,000 through a variety of
initiatives including public skating events with Kurt Browning and
in-store retailer programs. All funds collected will go to
participating shelters across Canada and will be used to cover the
costs of vet care, vaccinations, shelter and food.
Kurt Browning will be making a series of skating and media
appearances across Canada to promote the Pedigree Adoption Drive.
Information about these appearances will be linked here as I learn
about them.

QUICK FACTS ABOUT THE PEDIGREE ADOPTION DRIVE(TM) CAMPAIGN
Every year, tens of thousands of dogs arrive in a shelter and less
than half of those dogs find a good home. The Pedigree Adoption
Drive(TM) campaign is proud to be entering its second year in
Canada. Last year, the campaign raised over $300,000 for partner
shelters. Our goal in 2009 is to raise $500,000 which will be used to
assist thousands of shelter dogs across Canada to find loving homes.
The 2009 Pedigree Adoption Drive(TM) campaign is a year-long national
campaign organised by Mars Canada Inc, who is committed to raising
funds and awareness for shelter dogs across Canada. Activities
include:
- Public outreach and free skating events with World Figure Skating Champion and self- proclaimed dog lover Kurt Browning
- A portion of sales from Pedigree(R) products purchased in 2009 (up
to a maximum of $150,000) will go towards supporting the Pedigree
Adoption Drive(TM) campaign and helping more shelter dogs find
good homes
- In-store retailer initiatives to raise money and awareness of the campaign
- Partnerships with 30 animal shelters across Canada - each partner shelter will receive:
- A minimum $5,000 donation to be used towards the cost of vet care, vaccinations, shelter and food
- An adoption guide to give to new dog owners
- A digital camera to take photos of dogs available for adoption, as well as photos of adopted dogs with their new families
- Promotion of each partner shelter at www.mypedigree.ca, where they can feature pertinent information helpful to promoting and facilitating the adoption process
- Retailer support of local partner shelters
